What an absolutely fantastic afternoon our Manager, Sharon Seville had as a judge at the Stockport Young Entrepreneurs of the Year competition at Stockport Town Hall on Friday.
Around 200 primary pupils took part in the final with some amazing ideas and gadgets inspired by our next generation of entrepreneurs!
The children ran trade stands displaying their products with the school’s business links (including F1rst Commercial Recruitment, hatters promotions and Millar Landscapes) acting as ‘Dragons’ interviewing and judging them on criteria such as; originality of design, teamwork, potential future opportunities and marketing.
The children, some as young as three(!) from various primary schools around Stockport were given £400 through Stockport Council’s School Improvement Service to set-up and run a small business. They did their own market research and designed, produced, advertised and sold a product. Each child had a role within the ‘company’ such as finance director or marketing manager and it was fabulous to see such enthusiasm and commitment from everybody involved.
Gatley Primary School won the coveted 1st prize Trophy with their great idea for helping parents understand the modern teaching methods for maths! The runner up award went to North Cheshire Jewish Primary School who came up with a fabulous campaign called ‘Money Spinners’ which saw an initial investment grow to a more substantial one.
They received their trophy from Ricky Boleto, CBBC’s Newsround presenter and the kids absolutely ‘loved’ it!!
Stockport Town Hall was awash with ideas, inspiration, enthusiasm and it was an absolute joy to see the children really excited about their products and being a part of the competition! It was really impressive to see such an array of ideas and young talent.
Sharon had her own favourite which was Ladybrook Primary School, who set up an ‘upcycling’ business called, “ReLoved”, making new items from old vinyl records. She bought a fabulous wall clock and a cake/sweetie stand….. we just need cakes now and we’re all set!
Looking forward to next year’s innovative ideas from our younger generation of budding entrepreneurs!
Well done to all who took part, fantastic effort!
